When George Floyd was murdered in May of 2020, Danny Barton released a statement that was unpopular amongst many of his peers and colleagues.  In this 3-part series, Tim and Casey speak with Police Chief Barton about how he got into law enforcement, his passion for changing police culture, and the statement he released that drew so much attention.


Danny Barton is the Chief of Police for the City of Coppell, Texas. Coppell Texas is a suburb of Dallas and is a community of approximately 48,000 residents. 

Chief Barton has a passion to change police culture. His passion for the profession is why he believes that the culture of policing can be changed and authentic trust between communities and their police departments can thrive. An avid reader and learner, Chief Barton strives to be a role model for change in the policing profession.

Chief Barton has a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice and a Master of Public Administration, both from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Chief Barton’s strongly believes that communities keep communities safe. He is often heard telling his community, “We are here to serve you, not police you”.
